For Providers

Partnering with physicians to advance IBD research

At BVL Research, we recognize the important role physicians play in their patients’ ongoing care. By collaborating with gastroenterologists and other healthcare providers, we can help patients learn about clinical research opportunities while contributing to the advancement of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis research.

As an independent, physician-owned research site specializing in IBD, our goal is to make collaboration straightforward for providers and their patients. Whether you are interested in referring a patient, learning more about current research opportunities, or becoming involved in clinical research, our team is here to support the process.

Patients who participate in research at BVL remain connected with their treating gastroenterologist for their ongoing medical care.

Ways physicians can collaborate

Four routes into IBD research, depending on how involved you would like to be.

Patient referrals

If you have a patient who may be interested in clinical research, our team can help them learn about currently available IBD research opportunities.

BVL coordinates study-related activities, including initial discussions, study-specific screening, informed consent, study visits, and research-related follow-up. When appropriate and with the necessary permissions, we can communicate with the referring provider to help support continuity of care.

Research may be worth discussing with patients who continue to experience symptoms, have tried multiple therapies, experience treatment-related challenges, face barriers to accessing treatment, or are simply interested in learning about additional options.

Chart review partnerships

BVL Research may partner with physicians and practices to help identify potential candidates for specific clinical research opportunities through appropriately structured chart review programs.

Depending on the study and partnership, participating physicians may be compensated for their time reviewing potential candidates. Our team will provide information about available programs, participation requirements, and the appropriate processes for handling patient information and protecting privacy and confidentiality.

Educational collaboration

BVL Research offers educational opportunities for physicians and their staff to learn more about clinical research, available IBD research opportunities, and the patient referral process.

These may include lunch-and-learn sessions, practice-based meetings, and educational resources designed to help your team better understand clinical trial participation and feel comfortable discussing research when patients ask about additional options.

Opportunities to participate in research

Physicians interested in becoming more involved in clinical research may have opportunities to work with BVL as a sub-investigator on appropriate studies.

BVL provides research infrastructure and support for study coordination, regulatory activities, documentation, and other operational requirements. Our research team works alongside participating physicians to support the responsibilities and requirements of each study.

Opportunities vary based on current and upcoming studies, physician qualifications, sponsor requirements, and the needs of each individual protocol.

A research partner for you and your patients

Our goal is to complement the care you already provide, not replace it. When you connect a patient with BVL Research, our team provides research-related education and support while encouraging patients to remain engaged with their treating gastroenterologist for their ongoing medical care.

Whether you have a patient in mind today or simply want to learn more about current or upcoming IBD research opportunities, we welcome the opportunity to connect.

“Midwest Values Bring Big City Solutions.”

Participation in clinical research is always voluntary.
